What Snacks Are Gluten-Free?

by Mariana Lessmann

I’m sure most people have something in common: we all want to pursue a healthy and balanced eating lifestyle. Even if it isn’t a strict diet that is gonna make us lose weight to look thinner, we are looking for better eating habits to live a healthier life In my case, I always had really terrible eating habits. I would eat literally anything that I wanted. One whole pizza for myself, cake at midnight, candies in the middle of the day. Anything I felt like eating, I would eat it no matter what time it was. Luckily, thanks to the good metabolism I have always had, I never gained weight. But after dating and marrying someone who is gluten intolerant, my diet sort of changed. Now I try to eat as healthy as possible and follow a gluten-free lifestyle. I excluded wheat, rye and barley from my daily diet and I have been feeling happy with that new habit. But let’s be honest, we don’t always stick to a strict diet, sometimes we have cravings and we look to eat something outside our menu. Most people when having a craving, go to the food store and buy anything, a candy bar, chips, a piece of cake, cookies or anything. But for celiacs it is not that simple to look for a snack. We don’t see gluten-free snacks that often and celiacs may not be familiar with the brands they find. Being married to someone who is celiac has definitely changed my eating habits and has given me higher standards when it comes to buying food. Even though I’m not celiac I always read the food products labels to make sure they contain simple ingredients and that they are not processed or have any additives added. So for celiacs who are looking to take a break in the middle of the day to eat delicious and safe snacks, we made a list of a variety of gluten-free snacks so you can have an easier food shopping at the store.

A great option for eating a snack is the Multigrain Tortilla Chips from Food Should Taste Good.

They are Certified Gluten-Free and are perfect for eating with dips, salsas, guacamole or by themselves. They are made of:

  • Stone Ground Corn
  • High Oleic Sunflower Oil and/or Safflower Oil and/or Canola Oil
  • Brown Rice Flour
  • Flax Seeds
  • Sesame Seeds
  • Sunflower Seeds
  • Quinoa
  • Sea Salt

You should also try the Sweet Potato Tortilla Chips because they taste really good and have been very safe for my husband who is celiac.

For chocolate lovers, Enjoy Life Foods offer a variety of safe gluten-free chocolate products. Our favorite is the semi-sweet Mega Chunks. My husband and I have used them for cooking and eating for snacks and they have been very safe for him. Despite being Certified Gluten-Free, they are dairy-free, nut-free and soy-free. So if you are considering eating a safe chocolate, give Enjoy Life Foods a try.

Perfect for any occasion, a trip, your lunchbox, or for everyday snacks, you can eat Larabar’s amazing gluten-free fruit & nut bars. They offer a variety of flavors like Almond Butter Chocolate Chip, Apple Pie, Carrot Cake, Gingerbread and Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, but Matt’s favorite is Cashew Cookie because after eating the bars (made only with cashews and dates) he always feels fine. Larabar’s products are kosher, vegan, dairy-free, soy-free and of course gluten-free.

Can you imagine eating a delicious snack that at the same time is super safe for your celiac disease?

We know how painful it can be to look for a brand that is tasty and safe for you, but we found one that has become one of our favorite ones!

Simply 7 has different flavors for their chips and it is Certified Gluten-Free, but the best one so far for Matt and I has been the Sea Salt Quinoa Chips.

They are very delicious and after eating them, Matt hasn’t experienced any of the discomforts typical of celiac disease.

The Sea Salt Quinoa Chips are made of:

  • Quinoa Flour
  • Potato Starch
  • Corn Starch
  • Sunflower And/Or Safflower Oil
  • Corn Flour
  • Sugar
  • Sea Salt

So if you want to eat a tasty and safe snack, make Simply 7 your first choice because they are also vegetarian, vegan and kosher!
